Yes, I know, I mentioned that too at the end of the story - in fact I'd even go as far as to say that until a fair percentage of gamers can enjoy RT at 60 FPS, it's kind of pointless to try and implement innovative gameplay features (going into 2025 I feel that 30 FPS should be left behind even for story-based games).

But there's still a long way to go before, say, 25% or 35% or 50% of gamers have RT-capable hardware at their disposal. Some experimental projects sponsored by nVidia or AMD could be worth the investment, though, if they show off RT convincingly enough.
