TV manufacturers have improved built-in sound considerably during the last few years, but… yeah. Dialogue is still one of the aspects of TV sound where there’s a lot of room for improvement still.
I don’t know why that is. Sometimes I think that manufacturers try to actively push people into buying soundbars. Other times I think that no matter which soundbar one buys, it will never be comparable to the center channel of a good 5.1 home theatre setup anyway, so we maybe need to stop thinking in those terms…? I haven’t decided.
I do know that some models sound better, even way better, than others. But it’s no coincidence that it’s always the most expensive ones. When friends or colleagues ask me stuff like that, to be honest, I always tell them to include in the figure they have in their head when looking for a new TV the cost of a good soundbar too.
I know, I know. It shouldn’t be like that. But hey. At least one can listen to music too with a good soundbar+subwoofer set, which is always something, no?
