To its credit, Sony never mentioned 60 FPS because they know full well that gamers love rich graphics in single player games and that's the kind of titles what the Japanese company excels at. ;-)

To be honest I was impressed by Dirt 5's 120 FPS at first, but ultimately for most games a ROCK SOLID 60 FPS framerate is all that's needed. Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider I do not mind playing at 30 FPS as long as there are no dips whatsoever.

8K is not happening with PS5/XSX at more than 30 FPS and VERY simple graphics, that much is clear. 8K/60 It's not out of the question for the interim refreshes (PS5 Pro/Xbox Series... Z?) but that will depend on 8K TV adoption, which is not looking good at the moment.

I still believe that 30 FPS, if completely locked, is perfectly fine for AC, TR, GoW, Witcher and many other franchises of that type. Just take a moment to remember what we were playing in the PS3/Xbox 360 era and actually enjoying at ~25 FPS despite the dips. Some of those games are still considered classics today.

PS5/XSX can offer some amazing visuals at 30 FPS and developers will not pass that opportunity. It's good that many are adopting the "performance mode" option for gamers that prefer 60 FPS (even if they are almost never locked), but there's nothing keeping them from offering both modes every time.

It's even obvious from a prospective audience point of view: gamers that like CoD, Fortnite, Valorant etc. will always put frame rate above graphics fidelity and gamers who like narrative-driven titles will always do the opposite. So everybody wins!
