The European Commission has made clear that adapters won't cut it and that the USB-C port should be the default charging port of the portable device in question.

The case of laptops is a curious one. I completely agree that Magsafe is actually better than USB-C for the specific purpose of charging but, if a USB-C port can deliver more than 100 Watts of power to mainstream laptops it seems a kind of waste to have both.

The case of laptops that need A LOT of power will prove problematic. There are laptops right now that far exceed the specs of USB-C for charging (more than ~130 Watts) and it would actually take... TWO USB-C ports to make them work?

The Commission has given the industry 20 more months to figure this out, but we're all hoping laptops THAT power hungry will be out of fashion or just obsolete by then. Well, if everything goes according to plan with the migration to 3nm or 2 nm, that is!
