So TronicsFix did a teardown of the PS5 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weOCONceK4E) and the optical drive seems to be a custom job for Sony (if it was done by Sony themselves is anyone's guess).

There's no branding visible but what IS visible is the laser aaaaand... it's a single one. That is bad news, of course: the chances of one laser being able to work at all three different wavelengths are not good.

There are a few exceptions, I think, but - since Sony does not seem to have the intention of supporting audio CDs in the first place - it would probably be best to assume, at this point, that CD-DA support will not be added to the PS5 at a later date.

Will try to get confirmation from Sony about that soon.
