I agree with all of those points. Apple does offer a good software user experience on almost all of its devices or people simply wouldn't love the company so much. Beautiful product design can only get you so far.

All we should be asking for is for Apple to come up with some truly new stuff of its own. Risky stuff, crazy stuff even. But actively contribute to that pool of knowledge all tech companies draw from. Apple just proclaiming itself to be an innovator won't cut it anymore.

I've already written about the value of perfecting imperfect tech and Apple is a master of that.

But it does need to truly innovate from time to time. It is one of the few companies that can afford the occasional failure after all.
