Exactly, I agree. The refreshed GUI was the ONLY reason I was tempted to upgrade to Windows 11, it’s a nice change after the one we’ve been using since Windows 8 (2009!). But, ultimately, I’d rather have a fully functional computer doing things the way I prefer it to — without the initial hiccups of a new Windows version — than a prettier desktop.

I definitely did not want to be a Windows Insider with any of my PCs. Microsoft is already using all of us as beta testers without our permission, I will not make it even easier for them.

I plan to either upgrade after the first Windows 11 feature update at some point in 2022 or just start using them with a new PC by next Christmas. Even that I am not sure I will be going for if the next wave of PCs does not bring *serious* performance advantages (via e.g. PCIe 5.0 SSDs, DDR5 etc).
